In summary, gang graffiti is territorial and often linked with violence. They are markings used to represent particular gangs and their members. Words are usually produced in all upper case and are often accompanied with an image representative of the gang, a type of logo. Gang graffiti can also be referred to as ‘Placcas’ meaning ‘plaques, symbols of territorial street boundaries’ (Bojorquez, Los Angeles ‘Cholo’ Style Graffiti Art.)

A gang graffitist does not create graffiti for him/herself. The graffiti is created on behalf of the entire gang and is only produced within their own territory.
